Why We Serve
WHO WE ARE
We have a heart for serving the global church and want to see all people have access to all of God’s Word in a language they can understand. Eric and Julia met in grad school at the University of Texas at Austin, where Eric received his Ph.D. in linguistics and Julia received her M.A. in speech-language pathology. Eric has a background describing how grammar systems work and applying computer programming to research and data analysis. Julia currently homeschools their three children.
OUR WYCLIFFE MINISTRY
Eric is preparing for his first assignment as a Grammar Developer with a project developing computer-assisted translation software that significantly reduces the time and cost of translating the Bible. Eric will work with local translators and language consultants to analyze the grammar of different languages and program the information needed to generate accurate translations of the Biblical texts. Julia hopes to provide speech and language services to missionaries and language communities when the kids are older.
WHY BIBLE TRANSLATION?
We were drawn to the power and simplicity of Wycliffe's goal to see hearts and lives transformed by God's Word. So many people out there still don’t have a translation of the Bible - many without even a single verse - so we want to use the gifts and experiences God has given us to help make access to all Scripture a reality for all people.
Thankfully, we know God has promised to redeem people from every language, and He calls each of us to be His partners in the Great Commission. Jesus told His church to go make disciples, teaching them to obey His commands. But how can they obey the words they don’t have?
Wycliffe Bible Translators collaborates with local churches and partner organizations to advance Bible translation and reach communities with the gospel. The vision of Wycliffe is that people from every language will understand the Bible and be transformed, just as we have. Our desire is to partner in what God is doing to give all the world access to ALL of His Word.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
You can eternally impact lives through God’s Word by investing in our Wycliffe ministry. We want to invite you to partner with us to help bring God’s Word to the people who still don’t have it. This isn’t something we can do on our own. You can get involved by connecting with us here – sign up to receive newsletters or let us know you are interested in partnering with us through prayer or financial giving.
PRAY. Consider becoming a prayer partner. Prayer is essential to God’s work around the world, and we need people who are committed to praying for us and our work with Wycliffe. Email us to let us know you want to commit to praying for us regularly.
GIVE. Wycliffe establishes a budget for each of its members, and we depend on God's provision and gifts from His people to provide for our ministry and living expenses. As God leads, please consider making our Wycliffe ministry a part of your regular giving. Give online at wycliffe.org/partner/adells, or see this page to learn more about giving.
ADVOCATE. We love it when people connect us with others who may be interested in supporting the work of Bible translation. Consider sharing the mission of Wycliffe with people in your network and telling them about the work we are doing. Send us an email to put us in touch with someone you know.
